On linux at least, you're writing temp files with names like /tmp/Re_my_subject_line_1172593835353.eml. They have the right user permissions, but any user on the box can see the text of any subject line that I'm currently external-editing.

I appreciate that the filename might help users find their editor window more easily or something, but I would suggest that if you don't want to name them more discreetly, you might try writing the tmp files in the ~/.thunderbird/78f7s8df.default/ directory instead of public /tmp.
