Topic #30 Yamb with kdisplaymail does not work
    by Martin - visitor

Hi!

I tested yamb 6.6 with the latest 1.5 Thunderbird.
Unfortunately yamb does not execute any external programs. It works if I press the test button, but if a new email comes in (pop3 or imap) nothing happens - i tested it with my own script that logs all activity - yamb does not execute it anyway.

Any hints?

Hum, no.
In case I could have made a mistake when packaging the final xpi, I checked here to install it and send myself a mail. It works fine.

1/ Stupid question: are your 'Notify' checkboxes checked in Yamb option window ?

2/ Do you have some errors (relative to yamb) displayed in the Javascript console (menu Tools/Jacascript Console)  when you receive a mail?
If any, please write me the complete message
 in a reply.

Hi!
Actually it works (don't ask me why, maybe the restart of the laptop helped).

To your questions - yes I have checked the boxes and I don't have any javascript errors.

There are 2 problems left:

*) Not all knew messages are "notified" - I don't
have any rules behind it, I'll have a look on it
and report if I find something

*) The body of a message is not given to the
    kdisplaymail script.

Hi!

I deleted Thunderbird 1.5 (Suse rpm) completely and installed it from the mozilla.org - now I have a javascript error:

Fehler: uncaught exception: [Exception... "Component returned failure code: 0x80004005 (NS_ERROR_FAILURE) [nsIPop3IncomingServer.downloadMailFromServers]"  nsresult: "0x80004005 (NS_ERROR_FAILURE)"  location: "JS frame :: chrome://yamb/content/yamb.js :: yambGetMailForInboxFolder :: line 366"  data: no]

That's really strange.
I can't see a reason for this error to appear, it seems to be working everywhere else.
Easy solution for me: first suppose you might have a bad Thunderbird configuration. Could you try to
  • quit Thunderbird,
  • rename your
    $HOME/.thunderbird
    to
    $HOME/.thunderbird.save
  • start Thunderbird (and you will be asked to create your account from scratch)
  • install Yamb again (and no other extension, to be sure)
  • see what happens...
Then you can delete the
.thunderbird
and move back
.thunderbird.save
.
