shared Thunderbird profile between Windows and Linux and External Editor

External Editor is a very great extension for thunderbird.
I'm using Windows and Linux, and the two thunderbirds share one profile folder, thus I have the same settings of external editor on both the two OSes. I'm using gvim as my external editor; however, on windows, the editor is set to "gvim.exe --nofork", while on Linux it should be "gvim --nofork". Can External Editor automatically append an ".exe" to the executables? Life would be much eaiser.
Thanks for your extension.

I'm quite knew to thunderbird but a simple workaround to your problem may be to define:
alias gvim.exe=gvim
somewere were linux execute it at startup (since thunderbird is used in grafical mode I would put it in your ~/.xinirc but other place may be better suited)
