actif Sujet n° 266  accessing photo's in Aperture libraries

Hi

I have all the master files for my pictures stored in an Aperture library and use iPhoto to reference these files. When I use my browser to access WiPHA I see all the thumbnails for the images OK but when I try and view slide show mode or full screen I get this message -

I can't resolve this Mac alias: '/Users/user/Pictures/iPhoto Library/Originals/2009/2 Jul 2009_2/filename.jpg'

The .jpg file in the iPhoto library is an alias to the original file in the Aperture library

I am running SL 10.6, iPhoto 8.1, WiPHA 2.5

Thoughts ?

Dear alanp

I have exactly the same problem and unfortunately I have not ye t found the answer.

The funny thing is I can display one single photo from a series but not any other one. It dispalys the message "I can't resolve this Mac alias". In fact it show the path of the alias, but there of course is not such image; it should follow the alias, but it doesn't.

Any more comments?

BTW, fantastic application.

Hi,

do you have double-quotes in the filename or path of the picture aliases that can't be resolved?

Please try the following in the terminal, and tell me if it prints the original picture path:

~/Sites/wipha/getTrueName /the/path/to/your/picture.jpg

(drag 'n drop the alias into the terminal to paste the full path+name with escaped quotes and spaces)

I have tried your suggestion with no result. It tells me "Permission denied".

~/Sites/wipha/getTrueName /Users/papas/Pictures/iPhoto\ Library_2009/Originals/2009/2009_08_10-vuelo\ Vcia-Estambul/IMG_4569.JPG
-bash: /Users/papas/Sites/wipha/getTrueName: Permission denied

I have tried aswell with sudo to be sure that it is not a permissions problem.

imac-de-papas-4:~ papas$ sudo ~/Sites/wipha/getTrueName /Users/papas/Pictures/iPhoto\ Library_2009/Originals/2009/2009_08_10-vuelo\ Vcia-Estambul/IMG_4569.JPG
Password:
sudo: /Users/papas/Sites/wipha/getTrueName: command not found

And it tells me an odd message of "command not found".

By the way a strange thing i that the "\" after the word "vuelo" is not there in the true file, but only a blank space (maybe this is written by "\ ").

The fiel is there. I see it with the finder.

Sorry, but i am not a Terminal expert.

I do not see the double-quotes in the alias itself.

So, in your case, it looks the install did not run properly and getTrueName does not have execution permissions.

this should solve it:

chmod 4755 ~/Sites/wipha/getTrueName

and check it has been done:

 ls -al ~/Sites/wipha/getTrueName

should show -rwsr-xr-x at the beginning of the line. by the way, also check changeperm in the same directory, it must have the same permissions.

I am very sad but it still is not working. I changed the permissions with Terminal as you told me. Both of getTrueName and changeperm with out success.

When I enter as Guest to Wipha and I try to view the photo I still get the message of the beginning. When I try a SlideShow I don't see the photos and when demanding more info about the photo I get:

Warning: Invalid argument supplied for foreach() in /Users/papas/Sites/wipha/libs/wipha.php on line 769

Maybe this can help any further. I have the feeling that somehow the program does not follow the alias and wants to display teh alias itself. But when I look at the alias inside the packet of the iPhot Library I see the Photo and I can open it.

Thank you very much for your help globs. I would be very happy if I can provide some additional help to solve the problem (I hope that it is only my problem, altough it is very sad).

I have been playing around and I have the feeling that the path or alias cannot be resolved when a white space is in it. In fact the photos where no white space is tehre seem to work (although not always).

I have added a comment to the name of each folder to clarify its content and that could be the problem.

The folders are called for example: 21/3/2008-Visita de Lyon

And the white spaces seem to comletely mess up something (I don't know what)
